    Executive Director at Polish Smog Alert
    Co-founder and coordinator of Polish Smog Alert, which gathers 50 grassroots air quality initiatives across Poland. Works on air quality improvement policies since 2012. These include regulatory changes, such as: the introduction of coal quality standards, emission standards for solid fuel boilers, and designation of smoke control areas, as well as financial instruments for boiler replacement and energy retrofits.

    She has conducted research into the energy performance of single-family houses in Poland and the demand for financial instruments supporting energy efficiency improvement in this sector. Involved in air quality measurements focusing on particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide. Has co-led a successful air quality campaign in Poland, which resulted in a dramatic increase of public awareness of air pollution and the adoption of a number of air quality legislation and financial tools, including a country-wide support program for the replacement of solid fuel boilers, worth EUR 25 billion.

    Currently involved in remote sensing of vehicle emissions in Poland and promoting necessary legislation to reduce vehicle emissions, such as low emission zones. Recently, Polish Smog Alert has been nominated as a finalist for one of the most important environmental awards - The Earthshot Prize - launched by Pince William in 2020 in recognition of PSA's air quality work in Poland.

    Prior to joining Amazon, Maggie served as Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at UNICEF USA, where Maggie and her team led relationships with the corporate sector in the United States. That included gifts-in-kind, cause-related marketing, sponsorships, philanthropic grants, special events, corporate social responsibility, and employee engagement.

    Maggie also served as the Deputy Director of the Shot@Life campaign at the United Nations Foundation. While in this role, she led the Halo Award Winning “Get a Shot. Give a Shot.” campaign with Walgreens.
  • Margaret O'Toole
    World Wide Tech Leader for Environmental Sustainability at AWS

    Margaret is dedicated to finding ways to accelerate sustainability programs with digital technologies. In her current role, she leads a global community of customer-facing individuals who combine technical and sustainability knowledge to accelerate customer sustainability initiatives.

    Margaret is the main author of the Sustainability Pillar of the Well-Architected Framework. Over her time working in sustainability, she has also worked with customers on projects in operational decarbonization and natural resource management using geospatial data.

    Margaret studied at the University of Virginia, majoring in computer science and minoring in biology. Originally from the US, Margaret is currently based in Denmark and has also spent time living in Germany.
  • Thomas Basikolo
    Program Officer at AI for Good
    Thomas Basikolo works with the ITU coordinating and managing the AI for Good’s ML5G activities and as an advisor of the ITU-T Focus Group on Autonomous Networks.

    He received a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Yokohama National University, Japan. During his studies, he was awarded the Japanese Government (Monbukagakushō) scholarship. He was also a recipient of grants for non-Japanese researchers from the NEC C&C Foundation and a visiting researcher at the NEC Data Science Research Laboratories. Prior to joining ITU, he worked as a Research Engineer in the Engineering Department of Microwave Factory Co., Ltd, Tokyo, Japan.

    He is a recipient of multiple Best Paper Awards, the IEEE AP–S Japan Student Award, and the Young Engineer of the Year award by IEEE AP–S Japan in 2018. He has co-authored peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, predominantly in the areas of wireless communications and antenna engineering. He serves as a Reviewer of IEEE and IEICE Journals. His interests include machine learning, deep learning, and network science and their applications in wireless networks."

    Christa Hasenkopf is the Director of Air Quality Programs at EPIC. Her career focuses on efforts that open up information, resources, and networks so that more people in more places can help make the air they breathe healthier.

    Previously, she co-founded and was the CEO of OpenAQ, an environmental tech non-profit that fosters a global community around the world’s largest open database of air quality information. She has also served as the Chief Air Pollution Advisor to the Office of Medical Services at the US Department of State and in multiple positions at the US Agency for International Development.

    Hasenkopf received a PhD in Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences from the University of Colorado and a BS in Astronomy & Astrophysics from The Pennsylvania State University.

    I have 20+ years of experience in the non-profit and social impact sectors enabling organizations to leverage analytics and technology to accelerate mission achievement. I worked at the American Cancer Society for many years, leading strategy, experience, and insights to inform decisions for the enterprise. I went on to serve on the Executive team at a mid-size consulting agency, where I led the data and analytics portfolio and oversaw the acquisition of two technology platforms to drive results for a diverse set of nonprofit clients. I've also worked with multinational and governmental agencies on sustainability projects in South America, Europe, and Africa.

    In my current role as Head of Strategy for the Global Nonprofit Business at Amazon Web Services (AWS), I work across the company aligning programs and solutions to enable nonprofit customer outcomes for mission impact.

    Bas originally graduated as a Logistics Engineer but moved swiftly into advertising as a junior copywriter. After setting up an experimental agency called Nothing in 2008, Bas joined JWT in 2012 with the ambition to truly do things differently. So, he did.

    Ioannis Binietoglou serves as the Remote Sensing Policy Manager at Clean Air Task Force, a global non-profit organization dedicated to mitigating the most severe impacts of climate change. His work is focuses on accelerating the uptake of atmospheric monitoring technologies in public policy and methane pollution mitigation efforts around the world.

    Prior to his tenure at CATF, Ioannis worked as a remote sensing scientist at public research institutes across Italy, Romania, and Greece, focusing on the development of ground-based remote sensing systems for atmospheric monitoring. Additionally, he has led the research and development department at a company specializing in atmospheric monitoring instruments.

    Ioannis holds a Ph.D. in 'Method and Technologies for Environmental Monitoring' from the University of Basilicata, Italy, an M.A. in History and Philosophy of Science and Technology from the University of Athens, Greece, and an M.Sc. in Applied Physics from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.

    Dr. Colleen Marciel F. Rosales builds strategic relationships with air quality stakeholders worldwide—introducing people to the OpenAQ platform, spurring data-informed projects that advance clean air objectives, and supporting partnerships across sectors and geographies.

    Colleen has a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Indiana University and has over ten years of experience in indoor and outdoor air pollution.

    Currently, Colleen is doing postdoctoral research with the Air Quality Research Center at the University of California in Davis, where she programs high-throughput comparative analyses of instrumentation for air monitoring. She is also a Thriving Earth Exchange Community Fellow for the American Geophysical Union.

    For many years, she has been interested in nature conservation and the impact of environmental pollution on changing ecosystems and the effects on human health. In the Polish Smog Alert, Magdalena Cygan is responsible for coordinating projects, mainly related to air quality measurements, education, and raising awareness.

    She is the main coordinator of the "See What You Breathe" campaign. The campaign is based on mobile installations of artificial lungs that "breathe" to illustrate what concentrations of pollution we are exposed to. Magdalena also participates in the preparation of numerous PSA's analyses in the field of air quality. She developed her knowledge and skills during the WHO online training of trainers workshop to estimate the health impact of air pollution.

Chris also worked as a contractor to NASA at the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) in Fairbanks, Alaska, developing architectures for Sentinel-1 and NISAR missions in the cloud.

    Ms. Stoner has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell. Chris is a published author of technical journal articles and holds several patents.

    Aditya Mahalana joined the ICCT in February 2020 as a research consultant based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He is now also a co-cluster coordinator for the EV Batteries and Cost Parity cluster.

    His work includes electrification strategy development in Indonesia, fuel efficiency in Vietnam, soot-free work for ASEAN, and remote sensing testing in Jakarta. His work also encompasses vehicle taxation structure in Indonesia and other transport and environment projects for ASEAN.

    Currently, I am working with my team on a Low-cost environmental sensor (LAQS) based on the Internet of Things (IoT) platform known as AiRSYNSC.
